Eugénie-Adélaïde d'Orléans était la fille de Louis-Philippe-Joseph, dit Philippe-Egalité et Louise-Marie-Adélaïde de Bourbon, et soeur cadette du futur roi, Louis-Philippe. Plus connue sous le nom de Madame Adélaïde, elle fut active politiquement et soutint son frère toute sa vie. Restée célibataire, elle mourra en 1847. Son neveu, Ferdinand, fils de Louis-Philippe et Marie-Amélie de Bourbon-Sicile devint l'héritier de la couronne à l'avènement de son père en 1830. Sa carrière militaire le mena en Afrique du Nord en 1835, où il passa quatre ans. Trois ans après son retour en France, il mourra tragiquement dans un accident de carosse en allant visiter sa mère à Neuilly.
