AN EARLY 18TH CENTURY DUTCH SILVER-GILT MONSTRANCE,
MAKER'S MARK A FLOWER PROBABLY FOR JOHANNES PEYMANS, DEN BOSCH, 1724
The central sunburst with glass compartment, at top Christ pronouncing a benediction below a crown supported by two angels above a surround incorporating two putti amidst fruiting vines and wheat sheaves, the shaped oval stand embossed to one side with an open book supported by a winged cow and a winged lion, the other side similarly depicting a putto and an eagle with grape clusters and vine leaves between, the whole capped by an eagle vulning itself to feed her young, TOGETHER WITH a silver-gilt bauble applied with filligree decoration , Christ crucified to one side, Virgin & Child to the other, complete with fitted case, Height of monstrance 20 in. (51 cm.) (2)
