Krug--Vintage 1981
Tasting note: A small crop. Because of this and despite its high quality most champagne houses held back because of the evident success of the succeeding vintage. Krug, with its place in its own successful niche market, produced a delightful and distinctive wine. The blend contains a high percentage of Chardonnay (50 because of the poor flowering conditions which affected the Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The wine has evolved beautifully and should be perfect now, particularly in magnum. M.B.
