Lot Essay

The present lot derives from the signed version in the Niedersächsische Landesgalerie, Hanover (see M. Roethlisberger, Abraham Bloemaert and his sons. Paintings and prints, Doornspijk, 1993, II, fig. 740). This lot adheres closely to the Hanover picture although it has been slightly more extended on the left and on the right, and there are small differences to the foreground and background on the left.
