Lot Essay

This variety of lemon-top andirons is typically attributed to the Boston area. The cabriole legs are hollow-cast and unfinished on the back, also characteristic of Boston andirons. Several related examples are illustrated in Peter, Nancy and Herbert Schiffer, The Brass Book (Exton, PA, 1978), pp. 55-56.
