Lot Essay

Filippo Massini, jurist and poet, was Professor at the Universities of Bologna, Fermo, Pisa and Pavia. He was a member of the Accademia degli Insensati, one of the many learned societies founded to promote literary, philosophical, and historical studies (the most famous such academy was the Accademia della Crusca), with the sobriquet of Estatico.
