FIRST EDITION OF THIS GREAT RARITY. Burton prepared and published this exceedingly rare pamphlet to accompany an exhibition of paintings arranged by the Royal Polytechnic Institution as a "Pictorial Representation" of his pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina to consist of "dissolving views" painted mostly from his original drawings. His text corrects errors he made in the 1855-56 first edition and contains an account of the main rites connected with the Hajj, and the life, death and burial of Mohammed.
