Lot Essay

This annual schooners-only New York Yacht Club regatta took place on September 28th in New York harbor from Sandy Hook Lightship twenty miles to windward and return. Commodore William Voorhis's Tidal Wave won on corrected time and Dauntless, owned by New York Herald's editor James Gordon Bennett, was the first yacht to finish.
