Lot Essay

This mahogany looking glass successfully exhibits the transition from the Chippendale to the Federal styles. With its pendant floral tendrils, elaborate fret carved frame, with an urn sprouting wheat sprays at the top and string inlay along the lower panel, this mirror employs the decorative motifs of both Rococo and Classical design.
