Oblong 2°, (260 x 400mm). Hand-coloured etched title and 48 hand-coloured plates, extra illustrated with 4 original pencil drawings on thin paper, heightened with red chalk on the verso, 2 on paper watermarked 'J Whatman 1813', the drawing for plate 47 signed 'H.J.Alken' (lower right). Red half morocco gilt, spine in compartments, lettered in two, others with floral tools, gilt edges.

A FINE COPY OF THIS EARLY ALKEN WORK with the inclusion of four original drawings for plates 6, 12, 21 and 47. The subjects used to make the soft ground plates found in this album are drawn both on the reverse, heightened in chalk, and on the obverse. The subjects comprise: Hounds attacking a bear; Huntsmen and dogs; Dogs hunting badgers; A Horse. Schwerdt I p.26; Maclay Coll 6.
