Lot Essay

The 'La Dame au Parasol' pattern, one of four designs commissioned by the V.O.C. from the Dutch artist Cornelis Pronk, was sent out to Canton in 1736 and painted on tea and dinner services shipped to the Netherlands in 1737 and 38. Pronk's watercolor survives in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. See C.J.A. Jorg, Catalogue, Pronk Porcelain, pp. 32-34.
