modeled in 3/16 in. to 1ft. scale, the hull is built up from the solid using wood, the bottom is painted a cream color and the topsides are finished in a dark mahogany stain with varnish, at the waist is a yellow strake, the decks are finished in a veneer with the deck planking drawn in India ink. Details include: head rails supporting a painted female figure head, anchors, anchor rodes, belaying posts, pin and fife rails with brass belaying pins, belfry, capstan, deck grating, brass cannons on carriages, binnacle, ship's wheel, skylight, deck railings, lantern, an American flag, quarter windows and transom windows, nameboard and other details. Rigged with bowsprit, forward and main mast, tops and trees at the mast junctions, cross spars, standing and running rigging and is fitted with a complete suit of stitched cotton sails. Displayed on a pair of brass pedestals in a glass case with a mahogany base and frame. In the case is a brass plaque with the ship name, the builder's name, year, scale and other model details.

Lot Essay

Resistance was a 1777 10 gun Naval Brigantine fitted out in New London, Connecticut for service in the Continental Navy. She was captured by Howe's fleet in 1778.
