DIODORUS SICULUS (c.90-30 B.C.). Bibliothecae historicae libri quindecim de quadraginta. [Geneva:] H. Estienne, 1559. 2° (345 x 222mm). Title and text in Greek and Latin, woodcut device 10 on title, woodcut initial in Greek (lacking front endpaper, inner gutter of title strengthened, outer margin of last few leaves waterstained, a few spots). 17th-century calf, ruled in blind and decorated in gilt (rebacked, some wear to extremities partly repaired, covers quite scuffed and stained, one large old repair on front cover, bumped). Provenance: L.A. Burd (bookplate); R. Hill (old inscription on pastedown). Editio princeps of "books 1-5 and 11-15 of the Great History of the World by Diodorus. Books 16-20 had already been published by Oporinus in 1539.
