Title in red and black with engraved device (title and a few other leaves very lightly browned). Early 18th-century calf gilt (rebacked with old label preserved). Provenance: as above. EDITIO PRINCEPS of Procopius' Secret History, a furious attack on Justinian and Theodora which Procopius could not insert into his eight 'official' books of Byzantine history.
