[Paris]: Henri Estienne, 1592. 2° (341 x 207mm). Woodcut device on title (lacks ii3, blank, a little light browning and spotting). Early 18th-century English sprinkled calf, 2 blindstamped borders round sides, the inner one with decorative cornerpieces (rebacked). Provenance: J. Magdaleni (19th-century signature on title); unidentified armorial bookplate with motto 'Avancez'; L.A. Burd (armorial bookplate). Adams D514; Hoffmann III, p.618 (under Xiphilinus).
PROCOPIUS. Anekdota [graecè]. Arcana historia. Lyon: J. Jullieron for A. Brugiotti, 1623. 2° (309 x 203mm). Title in red and black with engraved device (title and a few other leaves very lightly browned). Early 18th-century calf gilt (rebacked with old label preserved). Provenance: as above. EDITIO PRINCEPS of Procopius' Secret History, a furious attack on Justinian and Theodora which Procopius could not insert into his eight 'official' books of Byzantine history.
