Title in red and black with engraved vignette, engraved frontispiece and a folding plate, half title (a little very light browning). Early 19th-century red straight-grained morocco, gilt spine, gilt and blindstamped border round sides, gilt edges (rebacked with original spine preserved, covers lightly scuffed). Provenance: prize binding with gilt inscription to John Macauley, 1817, on lower cover and gilt supra-libros on upper cover of the Trustees of the Rugby Charity. Hoffmann II, p.231.

Contemporary English calf (rebacked with old label preserved). Provenance: 18th-century presentation inscription 'Ex dono Richardi Meynell Gen:' - Repton School (gilt inscription on front cover).
