Details
Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château de Beaucastel--Vintage 1990
Rhône. Château-bottled: Perrin
Tasting Note: First in magnums in 1993: opaque, rich, full, silky tannins. In 1998 Daphne and I treated ourselves to a quiet Christmas away from the family. On Christmas Eve we settled down to dinner with three decent half bottles, preceded by a whisky sour and with Moscato d'Asti with the pud. Though it was against the grain to pay 36GBP for a half bottle of the Beaucastel, it was extremely good. Most recently, at Paolo Pong's Beaucastel v. Rayas tasting: now much less deep, mature; a ripe open nose which reminded me of melon and parma ham; good flavour, hot dry finish. Quite a bite. Last noted at Jancis Robinson's, May 2001 ****(*) More to come M.B.
