Lot Essay

These vase/candelabra stands have foliated balusters in the manner of ones signed by James Moore (d. 1726), discussed by R. Edwards and M Jourdain in Georgian Cabinet-Makers, London, 1955 (fig. 30) and A. Bowett, 'George I's Furniture at Kensington Palace', Apollo, November 2005 (pp. 37-46, fig. 11). Their prototype is a pair of stands attributed to Moore and sold from the collection of Mrs. A. H. Soames, Christie's, London, 28 May 1964 (lot 25).
