Lot Essay

Messrs. Ince and Mayhew's Universal System of Household Furniture, 1762 (pl. 77), provided a medallion pattern with related beribboned palms or reeds for convex or concave glasses, which they described as creating a 'pretty effect'. Amongst related frames is one sold at Christie's, London, 17 November 1988, lot 96.
