Lot Essay

The laurel-wreathed card-table is embellished in the 1770's Roman manner with a poetic 'Apollo' sunflowered medallion and Grecian palm-flowers. In the early 1950s a pair of tables of this pattern was in the possession of M. Harris & Sons of New Oxford Street (advertised in Connoisseur Magazine, June 1952). A single table of this pattern was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 7 October 1993, lot 96.
