Lot Essay

The late Christopher Gilbert, the authority on Seddon, Sons & Shackleton and author of 'Seddon, Sons & Shackleton', Furniture History, 1997, pp. 1-29, believed this bonheur-du-jour to be made by them. It relates to their signed lady's dressing-table, now in the Victoria & Albert Museum, and another labelled example now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (ibid., figs. 17-20).
