CRISTAL
Originally founded in 1760 as Dubois, Père et Fils, the firm became Roederer in 1833, after Louis inherited the business from his uncle. The Cristal luxury cuvée was originally made to order for Tsar Alexander II and was of a sweeter style actually made in crystal bottles. The firm has impressive vineyard holdings in Ay, Hautvillers, Cumières, Louvois, Verzey, Verzenay, Vertus, Avize, Chouilly and Le Mesnil. These grand crus are vinified separately in small steel vats and then aged in large oak barrels which gives the house its distinctive vanilla, nutty richness. Cristal is generally half Pinot Noir and half Chardonnay, with some vintages containing slightly more Pinot.

Louis Roederer Brut, Cristal--Vintage 1990
Reims
In original carton
"The Louis Roederer 1990 Cristal is awesome! A classic of power and finesse, richness and delicacy, it may be the greatest Cristal I have ever tasted! One caveat. Champagne, more than any wine in the world, is extremely vulnerable to heat. Pierre Rovani has already tasted a cooked bottle of this wine. Readers need to be particularly careful when buying Champagne." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #119 (Oct 1998)
