TROTANOY
Trotanoy is trully a top pomerol with the same ownership of Petrus, and vinified the same only with slightly less new oak and every bit as dear with a production of under 2,500 cases. Indeed, it is one of the few major properties to actually decrease in the size, concentrating on maintaining its heartland rather than expanding to perhaps marginal adjacent territory. The evolution of the estatès cepage over the years has been to expand the percentage of Merlot, hold a backbone of Cabernet Franc for underbrush spice, while all but eliminating some straggling Malbec. The 1975 Trotanoy is fully mature with a developed, rich spicy nose, full-bodied plum fruit, smooth texture and profound weight, without the excessively obtrusive tannins possessed by some wines in the vintage.
Château Trotanoy--Vintage 1975
Pomerol
Levels: seven into neck, two bottom neck, two top and one upper shoulder; excellent condition and color
"Impressively rich from start to not yet finished. Colour now medium-ruby and mature. Fairly sweet, its rich fruit masking high tannin content. Last tasted at Christie's pre-sale tasting in Tokyo, Nov 1999 **** MB, Vintage Wine
