BEAUCASTEL
Nestling in the heart of the Southern Rhônes most renowned appellation, Château de Beaucastel has long held a reputation for the greatest wines of the region. The modern history of wine making at Beaucastel begins in 1909 with the purchase of the property by Pierre Tramier and the re-planting of the ancient site. In turn the vineyard passes to his son-in-law Pierre Perin and has remained in the family since that time. The wines of this great estate are crafted by nature will little intervention by man. Little or no pesticides are used, an organic approach to viticulture and a respect for nature. The rich deposits of the sub-soil, the large galets (stones) that hold the daytime heat and radiate at night and the precious Mistral winds that serve to drive away excessive heat and have a drying and concentrating effect on the nearly ripe grapes at the end of the growing season.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Hommage à Jacques Perrin--Vintage 1989
Rhône. Beaucastel
In original wooden case
"The less evolved 1989 boasts an even inkier purple color than the 1990. The most massive, biggest, concentrated, and structured of any of the Jacques Perrins, but it is still 5-10 years away from full maturity. It has great intensity and is extraordinary to taste, but it is not a lot of fun to drink ... if you know what I mean. In any event, this is a potentially perfect wine. The only question is, when will it hit its plateau of maturity? My guess is around 2010." Robert Parker, www.erobertparker.com (Jan 2003)
