Lot Essay
A painter and etcher, Henrietta Mears was active in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Provincetown, Massachusetts. She was born in 1877 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and studied at the Art Students League in New York with Charles Hawthorne and Eric Pape.
Mears was a member of the Provincetown Art Association, West Coast Arts, and Berkeley League of Fine Arts. She earned prizes for work exhibited at the Minnesota State Fair in 1927and at the St. Paul Institute in 1930. In 1917 Mears had a solo exhibition at the Copley Gallery in Boston, Massachusetts.
