The arched case with glass side panels and terminating in a concealed sliding drawer housing winder, key, hand-set key and screwdriver, the silvered and engraved dial with subsidiary seconds ring, signed Derek Bryan & Sons/London/No.5, with blued steel McCabe style hands, the substantial movement with 1/4 in. thick brass plates and large pillars, the plates polished and spot-finished, Graham dead beat escapement with tungsten carbide pallets, with tungsten carbide knife-edge suspension resting on tungsten carbide fulcrums, crutchless suspension, the wheels of polished brass and with six crossings, high count pinions all with eighteen teeth and running in precision stainless steel ball bearings, Harrison's maintaining power, the pendulum suspended independently from a back plate, with invar rod and nickel-plated brass bob and fine beat adjustment to its suspension; with nickel-plated brass weight -- 56 in. (142 cm.) high

Lot Essay

Derek Bryan & Sons No.7 regulator was sold these rooms, 13 April 2005, lot 109. The design of the present clock's case differs in its arched shape and with the useful addition of a key drawer to the base section. The finish of the movement plates is also different, being polished and spot-finished on this example. No.5's accuracy is excellent; on test it has achieved a rate of well within 1 second per month.
