A large Chinese famille verte wall fountain and cover, Kangxi
of baluster form with moulded lion mask spout, painted and gilt with three ladies and a boy on a terrace, being watched on the far side of the courtyard by a man on a balcony, the triple ogee cover with bud finial -- 22in. (56cm) high.

Lot Essay

This form of fountain with distintinctive tiered cover, rather than the more usual twin-fish or simple domed cover, is known in blue and white, although a famille verte example such as the present lot does not appear to be published.
