FIRST EDITION. The work was reprinted in London in 1866, 1870 and 1874. Bondy p.141; Spielmann 183; Welsh 3213. "... a comprehensive anthology of prose and verse on tobacco and smoking ... The first edition is extremely rare and even the three later editions are not easy to find. One of the most endearing features of this finely produced volume ... is the engraved title preceding the printed title, showing nargileh water pipes, tobacco plants and, in the centre scales weighted on one side by a crown and on the other counterbalancing it a smoking pipe. The volume is dedicated 'to all true smokers of every land and clime'" (Bondy).
