Lot Essay

This delightful genre scroll begins with a dramatic procession in which a mikoshi (portable Shinto shrine) is carried toward a shrine on a shrine festival day. This is followed by a section devoted to merrymaking and all the frivolities that entails, notably eating, drinking and dancing leading up to the finale of fireworks and a shooting star on a moonlit night beside a lake.
