A Seki School Tachi and another Tachi
The first late Muromachi period (16th century), the second Edo period (19th century), inscribed Bishu Osafune Sukesada
The first honzukuri, iori-mune, slight koshizori and chu-kissaki, ko-itame forging pattern with a gunome tempered edge with clusters of nie along the temper, both sides carved with maruhi, the tang suriage with three holes and sujikai file marks, 59.5cm. long; motohaba 2.8cm.; sakihaba 2.1cm.

Edo period (19th century)-lacquer tachi koshirae designed in nashiji with shakudo and gilt fittings, mokko tachi tsuba, gilt-metal menuki of phoenixes

The second honzukuri, iori-mune, chu-kissaki, toriizori with itame forging pattern with nioi and choji gunome tempered edge with clusters of nie along the edge, ashi, chikei and sunagashi terminating in a ko-maru tip, the tang ubu with one hole and kiri file marks, double gilt-copper habaki, 73cm. long; motohaba 3.1cm; sakihaba 2.7cm.

Lot Essay

Dr. Lefferts formed his collection of over 100 items in Kobe and Kyoto in 1892. He lent most of his collection to "An Exhibition of Antique Japanese Armor from the Collection of George Morewood Lefferts, M. D.," at the Union League Club of New York, January 12--14, 1893.
