Fujiwara Korekazu (1816-1891) was the nephew of the first-generation Kato Tsunatoshi (1798-1863) and was adopted into the Edo-Sekido school of sword makers. He enjoyed the patronage of the Tokugawa shogunate, causing his reputation and social status to grow. Korekazu later became the seventh-generation head of the Edo-Sekido school, one of several branches of the Bizen Ichimonji school of Omi Province.
