The globular body molded with a sinuous five-clawed dragon detailed in iron red pursuing a flaming pearl amidst trailing vaporous clouds above a band of spume-flecked pale green waves crashing against white rocks, all reserved on a black ground, the rim and interior glazed white, with an apocryphal Xuande mark on the base

Lot Essay

A relief-decorated black-ground Yongzheng-marked vase of very similar design was sold at Sotheby's, Hong Kong, 23 May 1978, lot 163, and subsequently illustrated in Sotheby's Thirty Years in Hong Kong, Hong Kong, 2003, p. 315, no. 357.
