Lot Essay

The toe-rings and the red outlines allude to a post-wedding ritual, in which the first footsteps an Indian Bride takes in her in-laws' home are with kumkum, leaving behind red footprints that are considered auspicious. This plaque may be a permanent commemoration of such an event.
