Lot Essay

Scipione Cignaroli worked in Milan and Turin and although he studied with his father, Martino, his work shows the strong influence of Antonio Tempesta. He was also influenced by the work of Poussin and Salvator Rosa.

We are grateful to Ugo Ruggeri for suggesting this attribution from a color transparency (written communication, 8 February 2006).
