Lot Essay

Throughout their history Rolex has produced only two models of wristwatches with phases of the moon, the references 6062 and 8171. While both models are automatic, the reference 8171 features a snap-on back versus the reference 6062 with screw back. Made between 1949 and 1952, the reference 8171 was produced in a small series with most pieces being in yellow gold. Making examples in stainless steel extremely collectible.
