Side A: libation scene with draped woman and young Oscan warrior, the warrior wearing a helmet with tall double plumes, with spear and large oval shield, the woman wearing a short mantle and holding an oinochoe to one side
Side B: two youths standing in conversation, draped in their himations The neck with profile female head on each side, elaborate palmettes beneath the handles, details in added white and yellow

Lot Essay

This vase has been attributed to the AV II Group and, most likely, to the Astarita Painter, a principal artist of this group, cf. A. D. Trendall, The Red-figured Vases of Lucania, Campania and Sicily, I, Oxford, 1967, p. 398 ff. for other works by the AV II Group.
