A LURISTAN BRONZE AXE HEAD

The flared downward-curving blade with central relief arrow emerging from stylized lion's jaw, the ribbed shaft with butt-spikes in the form of four Canaanite heads wearing conical caps, 7 7/8 in. (20 cm.) long; a spike-butted adze head with blade emerging from a lion's jaw, decorated with incised zigzag, late 2nd millennium B.C., 6½ in. (16.5 cm.) long; an axe head with two lions chasing each other around the shaft, grasping each others hindquarters, with trefoil shaped butt-spike, the cut-away shaft with ridged edges terminating in spiral curls at either side, with straight rectangular blade, first quarter of 2nd millennium B.C., 7 in. (18 cm.) long; and an axe head with large crescentic blade emerging from lion's jaw, the shaft with reclining lion along the butt and four protruding knobs, 8 3/8 in. (21.2 cm.) long (4)
