SENEX, John (c.1678-1740). A New Map of India & China from the latest observations. To the Honourable the Directors of the East India Company, this map is humbly inscribed. [London: 1721]. Engraved map of India, China and the Philippines, hand-coloured in outline, (538 x 631mm). Title set in decorative cartouche at right featuring Oriental costumed figures and animals (discolouration and wear particularly to edges, a few tears touching plate area). Together with five other maps of the Asian continent by Rossi, Bolton, Tirion, Sanson and Robert de Vaugondy. As implied in Senex's dedication, much of the increased geographical knowledge of India came from the East India Company, which was fervently competing with the French for dominance in the region.
