The French Grand Prix, proposed and begun by Prieur and continued by Van Cleemputte, was first approved by l'Académie d'architecture for publication in 1787. The present lot was the third series to be published, a second series having been published in 1806. As with the previous volumes, the designs submitted and obtaining a prize appeared in 20 cahiers, each of which contained six plates. These Grand Prix publications exercised a profound influence on contemporary European architects, notably Gilly and Schinkel.
Special notice
No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium, which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
