LATE 19TH CENTURY, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, IMPRESSED 43, AND INCISED H.18, AFTER THE MODEL BY JÜCHTZER
Modelled as a vestal virgin pouring a libation from a gilt vessel into the flames of a sacrificial fire atop a stepped oval plinth, an attendant putto looking on, each holding the end of garland of roses, above an oval base moulded and gilt with Vitruvian scroll

Lot Essay

See T.H. Clarke, Marcolini Meissen Figures, Engraved by Friedrich Elsasser 1785-1792, London, 1988, p. 92, fig. 121 for an engraving of this model. Clarke notes that the model for this group was probably based on the Sèvres biscuit group 'Groupe de l'Amitié,' an example of which can be found in the Palazzo Pitti.
