The rectangular reeded three-quarter solid gallery above two mahogany-lined frieze drawers, on reeded tapering legs and tapering feet with brass caps and castors, stamped 'GILLOWS . LANCASTER'

Lot Essay

In 1813 Gillows of Lancaster supplied four related dressing-tables to William Powlett, 2nd Baron Bolton (1782-1850) for Hackwood Park, Hampshire at a cost of £8 16s 6d each. They were sold by the late Viscount Camrose, Hackwood Park, Christie's house sale, 20-22 April 1998, lots 356, 358, 359 and 360. A closely related dressing-table, attributed to Gillows, was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 29 November 2001, lot 257.
