Lot Essay

After devoting most of his energies to making films in the 1960s, Robert Frank sought to provide context for the pictures that he became known for. He further explored sequencing and the juxtaposition of images while reprinting old negatives in the early 1970s. The present diptych is just such an examination of a particular moment on a damp London street.
