Each with a later rectangular veneered Siena marble top above an egg-and-dart band and a foliate-decorated frieze with pierced C-scroll and foliate apron, the cabriole legs with foliate scrolls and husk-trails above scrolling feet and a trefoil-shaped plinth, regilt, minor variations in detail, the feet and foliate frieze carving probably added later

Lot Essay

Related tables in the French picturesque manner, with flower-festooned shells, featured in Matthias Lock's Six Tables of 1746. Related pier-tables, also with serpentined truss legs terminating in involuted feet, were sold at Christies, London, 4 October 2001, lot 120.
