The Movado "Ermeto" model was launched in 1926 and this purse watch enjoyed an immediate success thanks to its practical protective case. Its name is derived from the Greek word for "sealed" was intended to suggest protection of the watch against eternal influences. The system was originally developed by Huguenin Frères, Le Locle, and patented in 1926.

For a detailed description and illustrations of the model see "The Movado History" by Fritz von Osterhausen, pp. 74 - 89.

The case of the present watch is stamped with The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd. hallmark, one of the leading English manufacturers and retailers of fine watches, silver and jewellery situated at 112 Regent Street, London. In 1952 the company merged with the renowned jeweller Garrard & Co.
