Lot Essay

The present composition is a partial copy after the picture that was sold with Christie's, New York, 11 January 1995, lot 64, as attributed to Johannes Bosschaert. However, Mr. Fred Meijer of the RKD, The Hague, has suggested that the original might be painted by Balthasar van der Ast.
