Each modelled as a campana-shaped two handled vase, flanked by rams masks above a waisted socle and circular spreading foot, on a stepped square pinth, decorated to the front and sides with a laurel rosette, on a leaf-tip cast stepped base, the threads replaced

Lot Essay

Like the contemporary caryatid figured candelabra, such bacchic wine-krater and ram-handled Medici vases with their marble Grecian-stepped altar plinths, hung with poetic laurel-wreaths, would have served as chimneypiece garnitures in apartments decorated in the antique fashion promoted by C. Percier and P. Fontaine's, Recueil de Décorations Intérieures, 1801.
