Depicted perched on a rocky outcrop and with his head turned to dexter; with a rectangular metal label applied to the front inscribed "S.F.A.V. SCHWEIZ-ENGLAND 21 Mai 1938 Zürich"; the reverse signed "A. HUGGLER" and with two circular paper labels inscribed "5/1965" and "181"; the interior with further paper label inscribed "30 THREE NOUGHT".

Lot Essay

This was a gift from the Swiss F.A. to the English F.A. on occasion of this match.

The Switzerland match was the second international football fixture on the itinerary of England's Continental tour of 1938, during which the Swiss defeated England 2-1. The tour began with England defeating Germany 6-3 on 14 May at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, and concluded in Paris, with England beating France 4-2.
