Jean-Baptiste Boulard, maître in 1755.

Jean-Baptiste Boulard (circa 1725-1789) was an apprentice to Michel Avisse. From 1777, he regularly supplied the Garde-Meuble, providing furniture for Versailles, Fontainebleau, Compiègne, and the Tuileries. He is one of the most important menuisiers of the Louis XVI period. Boulard is renowned for a relatively serene style, above all in the period immediately before the French Revolution. Among his main pieces are a famous lit à la polonaise of 1785, delivered for Louis XVI's bathroom at Compiègne, and currently on display in Marie-Antoinette's bathroom at Versailles; and the suite of chairs delivered for Fontainebleau in 1786, a pair of which is currently at the Louvre.
