Lot Essay

Earlom's mezzotints after Claude's Liber Veritatis are a landmark in the history of the reproduction of Old Master Drawings. A veritable Catalogue Raisonné, the complete set of three volumes includes over 300 prints and was intended as a guide to the authenticity of Claude's work, forgeries of which were already in circulation during his lifetime.
