Lot Essay

This neatly fitted box is typical of Parisian manufactures sold in the Palais Royal area from the early 19th century. A similar mirror-fitted box is illustrated A. Clarke & J. O'Kelly, Antique Boxes, 2003, fig. 457. Such etuis, necessaries, sewing boxes etc are also discussed in G. Cummins, Antique Boxes, Woodbridge, 2006, pp.293-302.
