Jim Dine's Double Hearts I is a lush early example of the artist's most highly regarded subject: the heart. Rendered in decadent blues, greens and yellows, the present work is an ebullient celebration of this series which Dine had begun just the year before in 1969. Emotionally resplendent, Dine made a gift of the work to his son Jeremy in 1970, the year of its execution.
